Saroya Corbett, Bolin Fellow of Dance, will share her expertise with the Williams community in Dunham Technique, an Afro-Modern dance technique. As a certified instructor and a lifelong practitioner of the Dunham Technique, Saroya will discuss the dance technique as a holistic practice and the work of Katherine Dunham, the technique’s creator. During this experience, Saroya will combine scholarship with embodied experience. Therefore, participants should be prepared to learn and engage in a Dunham Technique dance class. What: This event is an opportunity for me to share the history and movement aesthetic of Dunham Technique with the Williams community. The workshop will start with a presentation on Dunham Technique and its creator Katherine Dunham and end with a movement class. The workshop is open to movers and observers.
