Dunham Technique: An Afro-Modern Dance Technique Workshop
Date and Time: Thursday, October 20th at 4:30
Location: Main Stage in the ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance
What: This event is an opportunity for me to share the history and movement aesthetic of Dunham Technique with the Williams community. The workshop will start with a presentation on Dunham Technique and its creator Katherine Dunham and end with a movement class. The workshop is open to movers and observers.
Saroya Corbett, Bolin Fellow of Dance, will share again with the Williams community her expertise in Dunham Technique, an Afro-Modern dance technique. As a certified instructor in and a life-long practitioner of Dunham Technique, Saroya will discuss the dance technique as a holistic practice and the work of Katherine Dunham, the technique’s creator. During this experience, Saroya will combine scholarship with the embodied experience. Therefore, participants should be prepared to learn and engage in a Dunham Technique dance class.
