The Davis Center Community Engagement Fellows (CEF) are a peer-to-peer education and community organizing group that work closely with the Davis Center (DC) staff to educate the campus on issues of identity, power, and privilege to build a more inclusive community. The CEF cohort each year develops programming to engage Williams’ diverse communities.
The application closes on Sunday, April 20th 2025. Interviews will begin shortly after.
There are two positions available within the CEF program: entry-level CEFs and second year CEFs. The job description for these positions differ.
Entry-Level CEF Duties and Responsibilities (~10 hours a week):
- In the Fall, attend weekly training and additional meetings with DC staff and engage in assigned readings on workshop facilitation and diversity, equity, and inclusion-related topics to develop competencies in leading workshops, facilitating conversations, and building strategic partnerships (approximately 2-3 hours/week)
- Participate in the Claiming Williams Committee in the Fall semester to assist in the planning and organizing of Claiming Williams and gather/assess feedback on Claiming Williams in the Spring semester to assist in preparation for next year’s Claiming Williams (2-3 hours/week)
- Assist with the organizing of key Davis Center programs including the semesterly Block Parties, the Social Change Film Series screenings, and regular Community Lunches (1-2 hours/week)
- Assist with various office and space management tasks at the Davis Center (1-2 hours/week)
- Collaborate with Minority Coalition leadership, the Minority Coalition Steering Board, and campus-wide student leaders to empower student communities in ways that meet their needs and improve campus inclusivity and belonging
Second Year CEF Duties and Responsibilities (~10 hours a week):
- Meet weekly to discuss matters of equity and inclusion at Williams and develop an understanding of institutional history and power at Williams College
- Work as part of a team which collaborates with the Davis Center, the Minority Coalition, and student leadership on campus to assess and lead in campus conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Serve as a DC representative in collaboration with DC staff on important campus committees
- Develop self-directed research projects and/or community engagement initiative to further the work of the Davis Center in further equity and inclusion in and around Williams College
- Work with campus partners as diversity, equity, and inclusion ambassadors on campus and/or in the broader community
- Developing research and/or reports on racial justice projects, reconciliation of Williams’ colonial histories, institutional history as relates to Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI), or other project that engages the campus or broader community in dialogue.
- Support and develop student-led programming, organizing, and activism as relates to matters of institutional equity and inclusion in service of the Williams’ community
Requirements:
- A strong desire to learn approaches to belonging, equity, and inclusion work and intergroup relation skills
- Strong project management skills and an ability to envision programs to meet the needs of diverse communities
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituents, to work well in a team, and excellent communication skills
- Passionate about engaging in difficult conversations and a willingness to speak in front of groups of 10-20 people
- Ambitious about tackling new projects and demonstrated a history of working both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to act in a professional capacity and maintain confidentiality with sensitive matter.
- CEFs may hold paid positions with campus partners in positions relevant to community engagement work, but they must otherwise not hold paid positions on campus. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- CEFs cannot study away for the Fall or Spring semesters.
- Second Year CEF Requirement: Must have been a CEF in prior years and/or be a junior or senior that has worked on community related issues during their time at Williams
