The Community Engagement Fellows are a Davis Center trained, peer-to-peer education group. The DC Community Engagement Fellows work closely with the DC staff and are part of the Davis Center’s effort to provide education for the campus on issues of identity, power, and privilege in order to build a more inclusive community.
Duties and Responsibilities: (Total of 8-10 hours a week)
Attend weekly training and additional meetings with DC staff, and engage in assigned readings on workshop facilitation and diversity, equity, and inclusion related topics. Develop competencies in leading workshops. (approximately 2-3 hrs/week)
Facilitate workshops and discussions for campus constituents, such as Social Identity 101, film discussions, etc. (approximately 2-3 hrs per occasion.
Provide peer office hours in the DC, serving as a resource for initial questions about diversity, equity, and inclusion related topics, directing inquiries to resources such as services and literature, providing information about programs run by The DC, etc. CEF’s also use this time to support the work of the DC with a variety of tasks (ie. maintaining the bulletin boards and physical space of the DC; supporting programming, putting up posters; helping with social media and The DC newsletter, etc.); and with tabling in Paresky or elsewhere. (approximately 2-3 hrs/week)
Define and develop a capstone project in collaboration with DC staff. These projects address and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus or in the broader community, and include a dimension that is shared with or engages the campus or broader community. (approximately 2-3 hrs/week)
*Strong desire to learn approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion work, and group facilitation skills;
*Ability to work with diverse constituents, to work well in an team, excellent communication skills;
*Willingness to engage in difficult conversations, and to speak in front of groups of 10-20 people;
*Willingness to tackle new projects, and to work both collaboratively and independently
*Ability to handle confidential matters and be professional.
*CEFs should not hold an additional paid position at the college. Exceptions can be discussed.
