Cecilia Del Cid, Amy Johns, and Mike Evans present on Building Relationships Between Sustainability Offices and Diversity Offices

On October 3, 2018, Cecilia Del Cid, Assistant Director of the Davis Center, Amy Johns, Director of the Zilkha Center for Environmental Initiatives, and Mike Evans, Assistant Director of the Zilkha Center for Environmental Initiatives, presented, Building Relationships Between Sustainability Offices and Diversity Offices, at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s (AASHE’s) annual conference. The presentation focused on the overlapping priorities, challenges, and opportunities the two types of offices often face on a college campus. Specifically, Del Cid, Johns, and Evans noted, “[b]oth offices are change agents, frequently struggling against the same kinds of resistance. In subject matter, the historical roots of current environmental problems have a lot of overlap with the roots of inequality, and any lasting solution to one requires a solution to the other. There are compelling reasons for sustainability offices and diversity offices to collaborate, but building that bridge can be a challenge.”
