Athletes Discuss Social Identity on Campus

During Winter Study, members of the Cross Country team and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) discussed social identity on campus. The discussions focused on various visible and invisible identity markers and categories and encouraged athletes to get to know each other, acknowledge power dynamics, think about the range of experiences students (and faculty and staff) bring to their current social circles, and consider the social implications of participation on teams. The workshops concluded with the development of action points for further engagement.

Tatiana McInnis, Associate Director of the Davis Center, and Angela Wu, Assistant Director of the Davis Center, partnered with Jennifer Chuks, Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services, captains of the Cross Country team and leaders of SAAC to deliver the workshops.
